PET REPELLENT

How can you keep cats and dogs from digging up your garden and damaging your plants? We show you ways to use pet repellents on your garden beds and lawns that won’t harm the environment.

pet repellentCats and dogs are often important and very much loved members of the family but they can be a nuisance in some parts of the garden, as can other peoples pets.

Dogs can dig up newly planted bulbs and flowers, not to mention the lawn. Males like to mark their territory and may do so on your vegetables while females can leave dead spots on the lawn.

Cats like lying on freshly dug earth and can flatten new seedlings. Both use the garden as a place to relieve themselves and leave unwlcomed additions to the landscape. If wooden chopsticks are placed close together in the ground then cats will not be able to sit on your plants.

Using fencing is a good pet repellent in some circumstances, though cats can often jump onto fences. Training them not to intrude is another idea or give them a space of their own. Bramble stems or wire mesh can be placed over new seedling to protect them.

This Cat and Dog Repellent keeps animals off flower beds and gardens and the pleasant lemon smell is not offensive to humans.

There are several natural pet repellents that can be tried though they will need to be applied regularly:

  • Chilli Pepper – this is one of the most common methods used, sprinkle it on the ground. The capsicum in the pepper will irritate the sensitive skin around the nose and will deter the animal from returning to the area
  • Ammonia, Vinegar, Rubbing Alcohol – soak cotton balls with any of these solutions and place around the area you want protected. They act as a pet repellent as the animals don’t like the smell.
  • Citrus – Some animals don’t like these smells so cut up some citrus fruit and place them in the garden to act as a pet repellent.

Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler is a clean and effective alternative to smelly, poisonous, or visually disruptive pet repellents. It senses animals the same way security lights detect people; movement and heat. When an animal is seen, a valve opens instantly releasing a three-second pulsating spray of water. The combination of the sudden noise, movement, and water frightens animals away.

An ultrasonic pet repellent can keep animals away from your property without messy or expensive chemical solutions and provides coverage up to 4000 square feet. The proven sound technology of this Yard Guard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller also repels a number of other unwanted pests.
